Indore police have apprehended property dealer Shilom James on Sunday for allegedly tampering with evidence in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case. He is accused of discarding a black bag belonging to the primary suspect, Sonam Raghuvanshi. According to police reports, the bag contained ₹5 lakh in cash, jewelry belonging to Sonam, a country-made pistol, and clothing, all of which are crucial to the investigation.
Revelations from Arrested Suspects
During the investigation, one of the arrested individuals, Vishal alias Vicky Chauhan, disclosed that he had booked an auto for Sonam. Chauhan, who is believed to have been hired by Sonam to carry out the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, mentioned that the auto contained a black bag filled with Sonam's clothes, jewelry, ₹5 lakh in cash, and a pistol.
Police Investigation Progress
Following this statement, Shillong police traveled to Indore, Sonam's hometown, but were unable to locate the black bag. Subsequently, Indore police tracked down the auto driver who had delivered the bag to the Heera Bagh area, where Sonam was hiding. A raid was conducted at the flat in Heera Bagh, but the bag remained missing.
CCTV Footage Leads to Arrest
After reviewing nearby CCTV footage, police observed Shilom carrying a black bag from the flat and placing it in a car. When summoned for questioning, he failed to respond, prompting authorities to track his phone. Shilom was eventually apprehended on the Indore-Devas road.
Judicial Custody for Main Suspects
Meanwhile, on Saturday, a local court remanded Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged lover Raj into judicial custody for 13 days in connection with Raja's murder. Officials indicated that the police custody for both main suspects had ended on Saturday, and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) did not request an extension for further investigation.
